2017 British Open Sporting and Sportrap

The British this year was hosted at the West Midlands Shooting Ground at Hodnet, in my opinion one of the best grounds in the country, I always love coming here, it is such a beautiful ground and im told they know What they are doing with the targets. It ran from Wednesday 30th August to Sunday 3rd September.

This was the last CPSA major for us this year and I know Taylor and Ami were both excited to shoot it.

So in recent years the format for this shoot is to shoot your chosen day, usually out of 4 days, the top 3 scores in categories and the top 5 in each class go through to a final on the Sunday to shoot a 75 bird course.  This will then determine the class and category winners and give you the top six shooters for the super six final to determine high gun and runners up.  I guess they do it so that if the weather is really bad one of those days everyone has shot a fair course.

Taylor and Ami shot the sporting course of 120 targets on the Thursday this year as it worked best for us.  Taylor finished the round on 100 and Ami 73, this was enough for them to both qualify for the Sunday finals.

They returned on the Saturday to shoot the 100 bird Sportrap which was a very technical round seeing alot of below par scores.  Taylor shot a very good 88 and Ami a fab 57, this was enough for them to both take gold in their categories, Taylor Juniors and Ami Lady Colts.

On the Sunday the weather decided we had obviously had enough sun and chose to drizzle most of the day with increased winds and random showers.  Ami was shooting in the first squad out at 9am and Taylor at 9.36 the weather really wasn't too bad while they were both out just a bit of drizzle towards the end.

The course was a 75 bird course and most definately not a give me course, some tricky birds to keep them all on their toes.  Ami finished on a slightly disappointing 36 and Taylor a fantastic 65.

65 was one short needed for the gold and so Taylor took the Silver, it was however equal first in AA and so they had to shoot off, Taylor finished third in the shoot off which was fantastic.  Amis score was not relevant for her category as it's classed as a special category and so her score from the original round counted and gave her Silver in Lady Colts, a lovely finish to the day.
